US President Donald Trump has said he is not interested in a ceasefire with Iran as the war continues to escalate.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said it makes no sense to ask for a ceasefire at a time when, according to him, the other side is suffering heavy losses.
"I don't want to make a ceasefire. You don't make a ceasefire when you're completely destroying your opponent," he said.
Trump also added that he believes the United States and Israel are on the same page about the duration of the war. “The relationship is very good. We want more or less the same things. What we want is victory – both sides,” he said.
The US president also spoke about the situation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, saying that "a lot of help" is needed to secure it and that it would be good if countries like China and Japan were involved.
However, he added that the United States does not depend on this sea route in the same way as Europe and Asian countries, which use it much more for energy supplies.
