US President Donald Trump said Europe does not tell him how to deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin. His statement came two hours before a scheduled meeting with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska.
Two days ago, Trump held phone calls with European leaders to discuss their expectations ahead of the summit. According to them, Ukraine should be included in any negotiations, aiming for a trilateral process that also includes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. They emphasized that Ukraine can discuss territorial issues only if the front line is stopped and without recognizing the Russian occupation.
European leaders also underlined the importance of coordination between the US and Europe in negotiations with Russia, as well as the necessity of continuing pressure through sanctions, as the European Union prepares its 19th package of measures against Moscow.
