United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on Friday for "serious diplomatic negotiations" to stop the fighting in the Middle East, warning that "the risks could not be higher."
"All unlawful attacks in the Middle East and beyond are causing immense suffering and harm to civilians across the region and pose a grave risk to the global economy, especially for the most vulnerable people," Guterres said in a statement.
“The situation could spiral out of anyone’s control,” the UN chief said. “It is time to stop the fighting and begin serious diplomatic negotiations.”
