The US Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose, announced the immediate cessation of contact and communication with the leader of the lower house of the Polish Parliament, Wlodzimierz Czarzasty, following his public statements against US President Donald Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Rose described Czarzasty’s behavior as “potentially damaging to the Polish government” and stressed the need for respect for the US head of state and diplomatic principles.
The conflict reflects tensions within the Polish-US alliance, particularly between different political parties within the Polish government. Czarzasty, a leader of a left-wing party, argued that Trump's political actions do not support peace and undermine international law.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Donald Tusk supported the US position by calling for mutual respect between allies, but did not try to change the position of the Speaker of the Sejm. Diplomatic experts note that the situation shows Poland's challenge in balancing relations with European allies and the US, as the country faces strategic developments in the region, including peace in Ukraine.
