Speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic regarding talks with the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran and Washington have agreed to hold a second round of negotiations, without a specific date yet being set.
According to him, both sides assess that the new round of talks should take place "soon", leaving open the possibility of immediate resumption of diplomatic contacts.
Asked about the possibility of a military clash with the United States, Aragchi said that such a scenario always exists, but stressed that Iran is prepared for both a peaceful solution and war.
He placed special emphasis on guarantees to countries in the region, explaining that Tehran has made it clear to both the American side and neighboring countries that, in the event of an attack by the US, Iranian forces will only strike American bases in the region and not the countries that host them.
"We will not attack neighboring countries. We will target American bases located on their territory. There is a big difference between these two things," he stressed.
While both sides have shown willingness to revive diplomacy over Iran's long-running nuclear dispute with the West, Araghchi has expressed reservations about expanding the agenda of the talks. "Any dialogue requires giving up threats and pressures. Tehran only discusses its nuclear issue... We do not discuss any other issues with the US," he declared.
