Tourists will be required to pay a 2-euro ticket to admire the masterpiece Trevi Fountain in central Rome starting January 7, according to Italian news agency Ansa. Only permanent residents of the Italian capital will be exempt from paying the ticket fee.
In recent months, the city of Rome has already decided to limit the daily number of visitors to the fountain, which was built three centuries ago. No more than four hundred visitors are allowed in front of this architectural masterpiece at any one time.
Commenting on reports in the Italian press, the Municipality of Rome stressed that no final decisions have yet been made and that this is just an option that the municipal authority has been considering for some time.
