Rushanara Ali, the British minister for homelessness, has resigned following allegations that she evicted four tenants from her London property and then increased the rent from £3,300 to £4,000.
In her resignation letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, she wrote: "I have followed all legal requirements at all times, but it is clear that continuing in my role would be a distraction from the ambitious work of the government."
Ali, who had previously spoken out against unreasonable rent increases, also said she was “proud to have contributed to the change this government has brought about last year.”
