New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he was informed this morning of the United States military operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, as well as their transfer to federal custody in New York City.
In his public response, Mamdani called the unilateral attack on a sovereign state an “act of war” and a violation of federal and international law. According to him, it is an open attempt at regime change, with consequences that go beyond Venezuela’s borders.
The mayor stressed that these developments also directly affect the citizens of New York, including the tens of thousands of Venezuelans living in the city. He underlined that his administration's priority is to ensure their safety and that of every New Yorker, adding that the city will continue to monitor the situation and provide appropriate guidance as developments occur.
