The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has announced that he will not run for re-election for the party leadership in the internal elections expected to be held in the coming months.
After the meeting of the AAK General Council, Haradinaj announced that the electoral process within the party will take place from February 20 to June 6. He emphasized that the decision not to run comes after a long period at the helm of the entity, since its establishment in May 2000, as well as after unsatisfactory results in the last two electoral processes of February 9 and December 28, 2025.
In the last parliamentary elections, AAK secured six seats in the Kosovo Assembly.
According to Haradinaj, so far Ardian Gjini has announced his candidacy for the new party leader, while other candidacies are not excluded during the election process.
Asked about a possible presidential candidacy, Haradinaj said he would not be in the race. Meanwhile, regarding AAK's stance on a second term for President Vjosa Osmani, he said the party has not yet made a decision.
Haradinaj was elected as a member of the recently constituted tenth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo. In the December elections, he was the AAK candidate for prime minister. In the past, Haradinaj has served as prime minister of Kosovo twice.
