Tim Davie has resigned as BBC director general following criticism that a Panorama documentary misled viewers by rigging a speech by US President Donald Trump.
Deborah Turness, the BBC's director of news, has also resigned over the same issue.
Davie, who had held the post for five years, had recently faced increased pressure due to several errors and accusations of bias.
The Telegraph newspaper published details on Monday from an internal memo leaked by the BBC, which said that the Panorama team had edited two different parts of Trump's speech to make it appear as if he directly incited riots on Capitol Hill in January 2021.
The BBC has announced that the news is under development and more details will be released soon.
