An Ohio man is accused of threatening to kill US Vice President JD Vance, the US Department of Justice announced.
The suspect, identified as Shannon Mathre, was arrested by U.S. Secret Service agents. He made the threats ahead of the vice president's planned visit to his home state of Ohio.
According to the lawsuit, he said he would track down Vance's location and use an M14 rifle to kill him.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the arrest also led to the discovery that Mathre was in possession of child sexual abuse materials.
If convicted, Mathre faces up to five years in prison for the menacing charge. The child sexual abuse charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years.
