United States President Donald Trump has stated that his political support significantly influenced the result of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the parliamentary elections held in Israel on Tuesday.
Trump has praised his relationship with Netanyahu, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Washington and Tel Aviv. The US president had publicly expressed support for the Israeli prime minister even before the election.
During the election campaign, Trump had described Netanyahu as an important partner of the United States, especially on issues related to regional security and confronting Iran.
The American president's statements come at a time when vote counting continues in Israel, with preliminary results showing a close race between Netanyahu's bloc and opposition forces.
Although the Likud party has maintained its position as one of the main political forces in the country, securing a parliamentary majority remains a challenge for the Israeli prime minister. At least 61 seats in the 120-seat parliament are needed to form a government.
The elections are considered crucial for Israel's political future, while relations with the United States and security developments in the Middle East remain among the main issues of political debate.
