The President of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pula, has decided to return to the Assembly for reconsideration the Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office. The decision comes after the request of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, which was also the sponsor of the law.
According to the Presidency's announcement, the President has given the Assembly the opportunity to specifically review the provisions related to the jurisdiction and mandate of the Specialist Chambers, as well as the full guarantee of the constitutional rights of persons being tried in The Hague.
In the justification of the decision, Shiroka Pula praised the sacrifice and contribution of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its leaders in the fight for the freedom and independence of the country. She also recalled the support for the Declaration of the Kosovo Assembly of 28 September 2026, regarding the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim.
The President has reiterated her opposition to any attempt to distort the historical truth of Kosovo, to question the liberating character of the war, or to equate the people who fought for freedom and survival with the regime that oppressed them.
The Presidency's announcement states that Shiroka Pula has conducted and is continuing consultations with representatives of relevant state institutions and entities, with the aim of coordinating institutional and diplomatic actions to document and protect the historical truth of the Kosovo Liberation War, as well as to affirm the role of the KLA.
The consultations, according to the Presidency, also aim to contribute to the best possible protection of the rights and interests of the KLA leaders who are being tried in the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
