Lamine Yamal has revealed the touching conversation he had with Lionel Messi immediately after the 2026 World Cup final, describing it as one of the most special moments of his career. The meeting between the Argentine legend and the Spanish talent became a symbol of the passing of the baton between two generations of football.
"Messi is the greatest player in history and someone I have always admired. After the match I just wanted to show him my respect," the 19-year-old said.
The Spanish star revealed that the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner gave him a message he will never forget.
"He told me to continue on my path and that the future belongs to our generation. Those words are worth as much as the gold medal I have around my neck," Yamal confessed.
The footballer admitted that he still finds it hard to believe how his career has turned out.
"If someone had told me a few years ago that I would lift the World Cup after playing against Lionel Messi, I would have called them crazy," he concluded.
