The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has been transferred to the hospital facilities of Fier Prison due to a fractured leg, which still requires medical treatment and recovery.
The news was announced by his lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, who after meeting with Veliaj raised concerns about the delay in conducting a necessary examination to assess his client's health condition.
According to Ndreca, an official request for an examination to determine the progress of the fracture's consolidation has been submitted for almost two weeks, but so far this procedure has not been carried out.
"It has been almost two weeks since we officially requested the necessary examination to assess the progress of the fracture consolidation. To date, this examination has not been performed, despite the requests and instructions of the doctor who is following his recovery," the lawyer stated.
Ndreca also revealed that during the meeting, Veliaj handed over several pages from his personal diary, in which he wrote the responses he communicated to the Minister of Justice regarding the requests addressed to him.
The lawyer has warned that these responses will be made public, without providing further details on their content.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen when the examination requested by the legal defense will be carried out and how the medical treatment of the mayor of Tirana will continue.
