A day after VNA denounced the conditions in which a Tropoja Municipality employee lost his life while installing a lighting pole, the Police have detained two officials of the institution, suspected of violating occupational safety regulations.
The suspects are Ndirçim Gjocaj, 36, director of the Directorate of Tourism, Public Services and Transport, and Gëzim Hasanpapaj, 60, technical manager of the works. Both, residents of Bajram Curri, are suspected of the criminal offense of "Violation of occupational safety regulations."
Their detention was carried out as part of the investigations led by the Prosecutor's Office into the September 8th incident, on Dobrave Road, near the village of Bujan, where four employees of the Services Sector of the Tropoja Municipality came into contact with electricity.
"Following these actions carried out at the direction of the Prosecution, by the special investigative group established with the aim of clarifying and documenting the circumstances and responsibilities related to the case that occurred on 08.09.2026, at around 10:00, near the village of Bujan, on the Dobravë road, where 4 employees of the Tropojë Municipality Services Sector came into contact with electricity, the services of the Tropojë Police Commissariat detained for the criminal offense of 'Violation of safety rules at work', the citizens:
-N. Gj., 36 years old, acting as Director of the Directorate of Tourism, Public Services and Transport, and GH, 60 years old, acting as Technical Director of Works, both residents of Bajram Curri.
"From the investigations so far, it is suspected that 4 employees of the Services Sector of the Tropoja Municipality, who were carrying a lighting pole to place it on the base, lost their balance and as a result the pole touched the wires and passed the current to 4 citizens. From this incident, citizen MS lost his life and citizens AD, ID and AA were injured, who were transported for medical assistance, out of danger to their lives," the Police announced.
The incident occurred as the four workers were installing a streetlight pole on the foundation. According to the police, they lost their balance and the pole touched electrical wires, sending the current to the workers. Muhamet Sylisufaj, 59, lost his life, while his three colleagues received medical attention.
A day earlier, VNA denounced the conditions in which the works were being carried out, raising questions about compliance with technical safety rules and the fact that workers were manually placing the approximately 8-meter-long metal pole next to the power line.
VNA demanded that the Police and the Prosecutor's Office investigate those responsible for organizing the works and the people who had ordered them to be carried out under these conditions. A day later, the investigations led to the arrest of the director of Public Services and the technical manager of the works.
