Three fires were registered this Friday in Gjirokastra, Maliq and Himara, engaging firefighting forces in several areas of the country. High temperatures, dry vegetation and strong winds are favoring the spread of the flames, while the situation appears more problematic in the south.
In the Tërbuqi area, in Gjirokastër, a large-scale fire has engulfed areas of dry grass and bushes. It is suspected that the flames were initially caused by a vehicle and then spread rapidly. The wind has made intervention difficult, while there is a risk that the fire will advance towards areas near the villages of Labovë e Madhe and Labovë e Vogël. The entire staff of the Gjirokastër MZSH is engaged in the field.
Another fire has been activated in the village of Vranisht in the Himara municipality, where strong winds and difficult terrain are hindering the work of firefighters. Flames and thick plumes of smoke are also visible in the area of Mount Çika, while smoke has covered part of Vranisht and the territory of Himara. The situation there continues to remain dynamic.
Meanwhile, a fire has also been registered in the village of Plovisht in Maliqi, where areas of forest and pastures have been affected. Two fire engines and the sector's staff are working to extinguish the flames. The situation has been brought under control, while work continues to completely extinguish the fire.
So far, no injuries have been reported, while firefighters continue to work to prevent the flames from spreading to other areas.
