Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo suffered another career disappointment as he lost the Saudi Arabian Super Cup final. His team, Al Nasr, were defeated by Al Ahli on penalties.
During the match, Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot in the 41st minute, giving Al Nasr a 1–0 lead, but Frank Kesi equalized at the end of the first half. Later, Brozović gave Al Nasr the lead again in the 82nd minute, but Al Ahli did not give up and equalized again in the penultimate minute with a goal scored by Ibanjez, sending the challenge to a penalty shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Ronaldo made no mistake, but his teammate Al Haibari missed the decisive shot, giving Al Ahli the victory. With this victory, Al Ahli adds the Saudi Arabian Super Cup to its collection, after the historic triumph in the Asian Champions League this year.
For Cristiano Ronaldo, this is the first time in a career rich with 36 titles won in Portugal, England, Spain and Italy, as well as with the Portuguese national team, that he fails to win an official trophy since his transfer to Saudi Arabia in January 2023. For the moment, the Portuguese legend remains the highest-paid footballer in the world and one of the most globally recognized stars, but trophies seem to have eluded him at this stage of his career.
