The Premier League has decided to significantly limit the presence of betting companies in English football, banning sponsorships on the front of shirts, a measure that directly affects some of the biggest clubs.
Currently, nine clubs in the championship have agreements with betting companies, making this decision particularly financially sensitive. These contracts have been a significant source of income, bringing in millions of euros each season for the clubs.
The new rule is expected to be implemented in future seasons and is part of a wider initiative to limit the influence of the gambling industry, especially on young people and fans most exposed to advertising.
However, the economic impact is expected to be significant. Clubs currently sponsored by betting companies will have to find alternative sources of funding, and for some of them this may even entail a review of their economic strategies.
