Colombian singer Shakira has secured an initial donation of more than 1 million euros for the reconstruction of schools damaged by the powerful earthquake that struck Colombia.
Shakira visited the city of Quibdo, in the Choco region, one of the areas most affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake. Around 200 schools in the region were damaged, making it difficult for thousands of students to return to school.
During the visit, the singer saw firsthand the damage to educational institutions and met with students, teachers, and local leaders to discuss the needs of the community.
The donation was secured through a collaboration between Shakira, Live Nation, FIFA and CAF, while the funds will be managed by her foundation Fundacion Pies Descalzos.
The money will be used to rebuild schools and create conditions for children to return to class. Shakira has been involved in supporting education in Colombia for years, through the foundation she founded in 1997, which has helped thousands of children in the country.
