The Mayor of Presheva, Ardita Sinani, has placed the Albanian flag on the municipal building to celebrate Independence Day, on November 28.
In her congratulations on this special day, Sinani emphasized that Albanians in the Presevo Valley continue to resist despite the denial of the official use of the flag by the Serbian authorities.
"Even in the face of Serbia's discrimination and denial of the official use of the flag for the Albanians of the Valley, we remain steadfast: with resistance, with dignity and with full faith in equality, democracy and freedom. One flag, one heart! For Presheva, the Valley, for Albanianness, for the flag that unites us. From Presheva, Medveđa and Bujanovac, to every heart that wears red and black — Happy Flag and Independence Day!", Sinani wrote.
The placement of the flag in the municipality comes as a symbol of the effort of the Albanian community in the Valley to preserve their cultural and national identity and rights.
Albanians in the Presevo Valley face numerous deprivations from the Serbian state, including restrictions on the official use of the flag, obstacles to education in the Albanian language, and a lack of adequate representation in local and state institutions.
