Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has been implicated in serious allegations of participating in a sniper group during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War.
Croatian investigative journalist Domagoj Margetic has filed an official complaint with the Italian prosecutor's office, claiming that Vučić was part of a paramilitary unit in 1992–1993.
According to Margetic, this unit operated in the area of the Jewish cemetery in Sarajevo, a key position for Serbian snipers during the war. He has attached video, audio and photographic materials that, according to him, link Vučić to “human safaris”, where wealthy foreigners allegedly paid to shoot civilians. In the documents submitted, Margetic says that footage from 1993 shows the Serbian president holding a gun. Vučić has vehemently denied all the allegations. Italian prosecutors have launched an investigation, after earlier suspicions were raised about the involvement of Italians, Russians and Americans in these activities. The siege of Sarajevo, where over 10,000 civilians were killed, remains one of the darkest episodes of the conflict.
