The Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) in The Hague have decided to continue the detention of Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, who, along with Hashim Thaçi, are facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In three separate decisions published on September 18, 2025, the Prosecution argued that there is a risk that the three defendants will evade justice, commit other criminal offenses, or obstruct the judicial process.
The panel, presided over by Judge Charles Smith III, found that there was insufficient evidence to support the claim that the defendants would flee justice if released. However, the Court said the risk of obstruction of proceedings and witness tampering remained.
"There is a risk that the accused will obstruct the progress of the proceedings and commit other crimes against those perceived as opponents of the KLA, including witnesses who have provided evidence or may be called in parallel proceedings," the decision states.
Meanwhile, the defense's testimony began on September 15, 2025. The first witness was James Rubin, former US Assistant Secretary of State, who testified for three consecutive days, on September 15, 16, and 17. American expert Paul Williams also testified on September 17 and 18.
