After the High Judicial Council, which decided to increase the reference salary for judges, the High Prosecutorial Council has also taken the same step for the prosecution system.
With 11 votes in favor and none against, the KLP approved the new reference salary of 222,425 lek. To this amount, 14,000 lek are added for the level of qualification, bringing the total calculation base to 236,425 lek.
The decision of the KLP produces direct effects for the members of the Council, as their salary is calculated on the basis of the prosecutor's salary. At the same time, the Council called on the General Prosecutor's Office to apply the same reference salary to prosecutors.
In practice, the KLP decision also determines the basis on which prosecutors' salaries will be calculated, while formal approval for its implementation is awaited from the General Prosecutor's Office.
KLP member Erind Mërkuri argued that the intervention was made necessary due to the legal vacuum created after a decision by the Constitutional Court.
According to him, the Constitutional Court had repealed the relevant norm, giving the Assembly time to fill the legal gap. However, the situation has not been resolved, making it necessary to directly implement the Constitutional Court's decision.
"The decisions of the CC are final and mandatory for implementation. We are obliged by the Constitutional Court to keep the system afloat, as the salary is the basis of its functioning," declared Mërkuri.
The reference salary increases by 65,600 lek, while including the addition of 14,000 lek for the diploma group, the change is expected to bring a significant increase in the salaries of magistrates.
Due to the formulas provided in the law, the financial effect becomes even greater for the higher levels of the justice system and special structures, where the salary increase can reach over 3 thousand euros.
