But the peak was the government of 2009 when Berisha took the most fanatical wing of the left into government; not only the ministers but also those below the ministers were radical haters, nostalgic for the Mehmet Shehu era, former Sigurimi employees, etc. who called the SP soft, liberalized and not as communist as they wanted. He expelled Bamir Topi's group, accepted to lose right-wing votes only so that Topi's group would no longer have access to the party and to power and, when it won 70 mandates, he compensated the gap with the LSI. And from that day on, the LSI did not leave the DP. He linked his fate with them.
You will say that it was a coalition, while Rama's is a "purchase". It is not true. Rama's is also a coalition, but it is a different coalition. Not all coalitions are the same. There are many forms of coalitions. There is a direct coalition with the official party structure, there is also a coalition with flows, individuals, currents or social networks that once belonged to the other wing.
The DP (nor the SP) is not the owner of the people and cannot hold them accountable and tell them that since you once adhered to me, you must adhere to me forever. The accusations that the official DP of the seal and headquarters will throw at the people who may (if..) join Edi Rama are in vain, because it has no ownership over them. Even more so since it has expelled most of them itself with accusations of treason and not worshipping the figure of Sali Berisha at the appropriate levels.
At the point where Edi Rama's power has reached, he needs a rotation of interests. The camps in society cannot be polarized, power is everything, while whoever is not close to power is excluded, exterminated and pushed to the periphery of society. This causes problems and frustration in society and Edi Rama understands it; if he doesn't understand, Albanian and foreign advisors have explained it to him.
When the podium was launched in 2021, the promise was "Stronger, more open, more united". After 4 years, the reality is "Weaker, more closed, more divided" - a spectacular failure that no one dares to speak about because the leader cuts off their tongue with the scissors shaped like the two fingers of democracy.
Now it is up to Edi Rama to try to save the Democrats from the degradation of their interests. After all, Edi Rama is also a former Democrat, the founder of the DP, but he was expelled from the very beginning because the leader sensed that he was an enemy of the free vote and expelled him from the beginning.
