The Ministry of Justice has sent the French authorities the official request for the extradition of businessman Ermal Beqiri, arrested on July 24 in Plény, France, while he was flying a plane near a nuclear power plant.
The news was confirmed by the Ministry of Justice itself, which announced that the request was forwarded in accordance with Albanian legislation, international agreements and legal cooperation procedures with France. The file was accompanied by the documentation prepared by the proceeding body.
According to the announcement, the extradition procedure will continue according to French legislation and international instruments in force, while the authorities of both countries will cooperate until the completion of the process.
Beqiri is under investigation by SPAK in a case related to alleged abuses with AKSHI tenders. According to the investigation, he is accused of involvement in a structured criminal group, corruption and other criminal offenses.
Investigators have discovered that the businessman owns significant assets in France, including a castle worth around 2.6 million euros, apartments, vehicles and other assets. According to SPAK, a bank account with around 2 million euros has also been identified in his name.
The Special Prosecution Office has requested the French authorities to seize these assets, as well as verify Beqiri's possible criminal activity during the period he remained on the run.
SPAK had located his location on June 19, requesting the cooperation of French authorities for the arrest. Meanwhile, in December 2025, the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime had imposed the security measure "prison arrest" on him, while Interpol had announced an international search. Ergys Agasi, considered by investigators to be the leader of the criminal group, is also wanted in the same file.
The Ministry of Justice explains that after the request is submitted, the process will continue according to the procedures provided for by the European Convention on Extradition and the legislation of both countries, until a decision is made by the French authorities to extradite the businessman.
