An Albanian man in his 20s was killed and a woman was seriously injured after a shooting incident overnight in the Swedish city of Helsingborg.
Police said the alarm was raised shortly before midnight when patrols heard several shots in the Adolfsberg area, south of the city. Two people were found shot in the open at the scene.
Both, a man and a woman in their 20s, were rushed to hospital. The man, who is reportedly from Albania, died from his injuries, while the woman underwent surgery and her condition is described as serious but stable.
According to police, both men were previously known to authorities. Swedish media reports that the murdered man is suspected of having ties to a criminal network in the Helsingborg area and had been in custody last fall on suspicion of kidnapping, before being released in November.
Police conducted a large-scale operation overnight, conducting a technical check at the scene, knocking on doors and analyzing security cameras. So far, no one has been arrested.
Witnesses reported that a gray van was seen leaving the area at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say they are working to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive for the attack, in order to avoid a possible escalation of violence.
