Sock marks on the ankles or lower legs are usually considered normal, especially after a long day or when the socks are too tight. But in some cases, they can be a sign of circulatory, heart, or kidney problems.
Experts explain that there is no reason to worry when these signs appear after many hours of sitting or standing, as blood tends to pool in the lower legs. Dehydration or excessive salt consumption can also cause fluid retention and mild swelling.
However, the situation changes when the signs are accompanied by other symptoms such as:
* swelling of the joints,
* change in skin color,
* varicose veins,
* pain or a feeling of heaviness in the legs.
Doctors warn that more care should be taken, especially when one leg swells more than the other or when the signs are much more visible on only one side. In such cases, there may be problems with venous circulation, the heart, or the kidneys.
Other symptoms that should not be ignored are difficulty breathing, shortness of breath when lying down, or unusual fatigue.
Experts advise a medical checkup if these signs recur frequently, while for prevention they recommend physical activity, good hydration, and the use of compression stockings for people who stand or sit for long periods of time.
