Kreshnik Mujeci was killed today in broad daylight in the city of Lezha, in a gunshot attack, while he was inside a vehicle with his wife. Both were killed on the spot from the shooting, while the perpetrators fled the scene and are still being sought.
Meanwhile, after the assassination, attention has returned to Mujec's past, who years ago was involved in a court case for a murder that occurred in Shkodra, but was ultimately declared innocent by the court.
According to court documents, the Shkodra Prosecution Office had sent for trial the criminal case against Jozef Mujeci, accused of the criminal offenses of “Premeditated Murder”, committed in collaboration, and “Unlicensed Possession and Production of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition”. Kreshnik Mujeci, accused of the criminal offense of “Premeditated Murder”, committed in collaboration, was also named as a defendant in the same case.
How the murder happened in 2016
The incident for which they were investigated was related to the murder of citizen Genc Mhillaj. According to the investigative file, on October 6, 2016, at around 11:00, the operations room at the Shkodra Police Directorate was notified of a person shot with a firearm on the Rranxa-Bushat axis towards Mali i Jushi.
The victim, Genc Mhillaj, was urgently transported to the Shkodra Regional Hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
A witness stated that he had seen two armed men, one with an automatic weapon and the other with a bat, who after the shooting got into a dark-colored Audi vehicle and left the scene.
Evidence presented by the Prosecution
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had had a conflict a few days before the incident with Jozef Mujeci, which was considered by the Prosecution as a possible motive for the crime.
As part of the investigation, searches were also conducted at the apartment of Pjetër Mujeci, the father of Jozef Mujeci. A dark gray Audi A3 vehicle was found parked at the entrance to the apartment's yard, with the hood and muffler still hot.
Meanwhile, about 2-3 kilometers from the crime scene, in front of the "Molla" restaurant, a Mercedes-Benz van was found parked with documents in the name of Kreshnik Mujeci, an element that, according to the Prosecution, linked him to the incident.
A TT pistol, model 54, caliber 7.62 mm, with a clip of eight rounds, was also seized at the scene.
During the investigation, environmental wiretapping was also conducted between Pjetër Mujeci and Jozef Mujeci, from which, according to the prosecution, data was obtained that was considered important for the investigation.
Another witness, Bardhok Marku, stated that about an hour before the police arrived, he had seen a car near Pjetër Mujeci's apartment move, but he could not identify the person driving it.
Why were they declared innocent?
During the trial, the court concluded that the evidence presented by the Prosecution was not sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The examination resulted in no fingerprints of Jozef Mujec being found in the Audi vehicle, while the witness who had mentioned his name during the investigation later stated in court that he had not identified the perpetrators of the murder.
Also, during the trial, evidence was presented showing that at the time of the crime, Jozef Mujeci was in the Koplik area, while telephone records supported this version.
For these reasons, the court decided to acquit Jozef and Kreshnik Mujeci of the charge of premeditated murder.
Today's assassination in Lezha
Today's murder of Kreshnik Mujeci in Lezha, where he lost his life along with his wife inside the vehicle, has brought this old criminal file back into focus.
The police and the investigation team have launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the assassination and identify the perpetrators, while verifying whether the incident is related to previous conflicts or other criminal circumstances.

At around 14:50 at the exit of the village of Balldren, Lezha, on the Balldren-Torrovica road, under still unclear circumstances, a gunshot was fired at an Audi vehicle, driven by citizen KM, 39 years old, who was traveling with his wife, citizen GM, 32 years old, who lost their lives at the scene.
After receiving the notification, police services immediately went to the scene and are continuing to search the area to locate and capture the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, a special investigative group has been established, and under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, it is working intensively to capture any evidence that will serve the investigation, with the aim of clarifying and legally documenting, identifying and capturing the perpetrators.
