Painful memories from the last war in Kosovo continue to shake the public. Mother Shukrije Ahmeti from Rezalla, Drenica, has recounted the last moments of her son's life, only 7 years old, who was seriously injured during the events of March 5, 1998.
"Leotrim told me: 'Oh mother, look, I have something in my stomach too, I'm sick to my stomach.' When I took off his clothes, I saw that his stomach had been torn open and his intestines had come out. I put his sweater on him to cover the wound, but he told me: 'Don't touch me, it hurts a lot,'" recalls mother Shukrija.
Despite the first medical aid provided in Gradica, her son did not survive more than three hours. Due to the circumstances of the war, the family was unable to bring the body to Rezallë, so the burial took place in Gradica.
"We buried our 7-year-old son in Gradica because we couldn't bring him to Rezallë," she added with tears in her eyes.
This sad story remains a living testimony to the indelible pain left behind by the events of March 1998 in Drenica.
