An unidentified drone has exploded in Bulgarian airspace, near the border with Romania, causing alarm among authorities.
According to Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, the drone entered from Romanian territory and exploded about 1 kilometer from a compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, near the former Kardam border crossing. There were no casualties or damage to buildings or infrastructure from the incident.
Bulgarian and Romanian authorities were unable to identify the drone during its flight, but its location was immediately determined after the explosion. Surveillance measures are expected to be increased in the area.
The incident comes days after Romania shot down three drones in three days in its airspace. At least one of them has been identified as a Shahed drone used by Russian forces.
