Former US envoy for the Balkans, Richard Grenell, has reacted to recent political developments in Kosovo, expressing support for the six members of parliament from the Democratic League of Kosovo who have declared that they will not vote for Bekim Sejdiu for president.
Grenell has published on the social network X a photo of six MPs, including former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, accompanied by a message of support.
"My friend Avdullah Hoti and his colleagues are great friends of America," Grenell wrote.
His reaction comes at a time when Bekim Sejdiu's candidacy for president, proposed as part of the agreement between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the LDK, has caused clashes within the LDK.
The six LDK MPs who have announced that they will not support Sejdiu are Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri.
Their statements have created new tensions within the party and have called into question full parliamentary support for the agreed candidate for the post of president of Kosovo.
