US President Donald Trump has announced the withdrawal of his invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to participate in the so-called "Peace Council", escalating his tensions with Ottawa.
The US president announced his decision in a post on the Truth Social platform.
"Please consider this letter as notice of the withdrawal of the Peace Council's invitation to you to join what will be the most prestigious Council of Leaders ever," the president wrote.
Trump's action came hours after Mark Carney's public reaction to the US president's statements, in which the Canadian prime minister stressed that Canada "does not exist thanks to the US," rejecting harsh criticism of his country's dependence on Washington.
