US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, today accused Iran of violating the ceasefire several times.
"Iran has violated the ceasefire multiple times!" the US president wrote briefly.
The ceasefire is set to expire Wednesday evening US time, and Tehran has previously accused Washington of violating the agreement by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran reportedly closed the vital sea route again on Saturday.
Trump's latest tweet comes at a time when developments are expected from both sides regarding the progress of talks in Pakistan this week.
Earlier, CNN reported that the US president's social media posts are creating difficulties in efforts to end the US-Iran war.
“As the weekend approached, the U.S. and Iran appeared to be moving closer to a deal to end the seven-week war. Then President Trump did exactly what his aides have repeatedly said he would not do: he appeared to be trying to negotiate through the media, posting on social media about the ongoing talks and speaking to several reporters by phone Friday morning, while Pakistani mediators briefed him on ongoing contacts with Iranian officials in Tehran.”
