
Italian authorities have cracked down on a suspected international drug trafficking organization, which was allegedly led by an Albanian citizen residing in the Netherlands, local media report.
According to preliminary investigations, the Albanian coordinated the trafficking of cocaine to various European countries through encrypted messaging platforms. In Italy, members of the group were involved in the receipt, storage and distribution of drugs in the main areas of illegal activity in the capital, such as Borghesiana, Pigneto, Spinaceto, Torre Spaccata, Alessandrino, Tor De Cenci, Finocchio, Capannelle and Tor Bella Monaca.
Italian couriers and modified vehicles were used to transport the drugs. Investigations have documented the circulation of over 210 kilograms of cocaine, of which 130 kilograms were seized, with an estimated value of around 1 million euros.
During the operation, three people were arrested in flagrante delicto: one Italian and two Albanians.
