The Spanish National Police has arrested in the city of Vigo an Albanian citizen wanted for drug trafficking and participation in an organized criminal group.
The suspect, who had fled the country to avoid a sentence of up to 30 years in prison, was caught after identifying himself with forged documents as a Croatian citizen. As reported by Spanish media, a data check revealed that an Interpol red notice had been issued against him since May, at the request of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime.
According to Albanian authorities, he was involved in a drug trafficking operation launched in September 2020, where he communicated with known traffickers about a shipment destined for Italy.
He is also accused of warning his associates about a police search of his apartment, where 100 grams of heroin and signal jamming equipment were seized. However, he is suspected of having taken measures to hide the drugs and continue his criminal activity. The arrested man is currently awaiting extradition proceedings.
