Moldova was hit by a series of drone incidents on Saturday morning, October 3, after five unmanned aerial vehicles flew over the country's airspace and their fragments were found in four districts.
Explosions were reported in Causeni, Stefan Voda, Anenii Noi and Hincesti counties. In Causeni, debris from two drones was found, one on the outskirts of the city and the other near the village of Constantinovca. Other fragments were discovered near Crocmaz, in Stefan Voda county, between the villages of Delacau and Puhaceni in Anenii Noi county, as well as in the Dubovce area, in Hincesti county.
One of the explosions near Crocmaz occurred in a vineyard area, near an agricultural brigade. As a result, a fire broke out in the vegetation and the windows of a nearby building were damaged. Authorities have announced that no one was injured in the incidents.
Moldova's Foreign Ministry has described the incident as a violation of national airspace by five drones, linking the incident to Russia's massive attacks on Ukraine. Moldovan authorities are monitoring the situation and investigating the exact circumstances of the aircraft's entry into the country's territory.
The incidents in Moldova coincided with a large-scale Russian airstrike on Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 157 drones on the night of October 3, while Ukrainian air defenses shot down or neutralized 131 of them. Strikes were recorded in 12 locations, while drone debris was reported in five other areas.
Police and specialized teams are in the areas where the fragments were found and are documenting the incidents. Authorities have called on citizens to remain calm, avoid areas where explosions have been reported, and not touch or approach suspicious debris or objects. If they encounter such items, citizens are instructed to immediately notify the emergency services on 112.
