Today's shooting incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel on Connecticut Avenue, the same hotel where Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded in 1981.
The assassination occurred on March 30, 1981, when the perpetrator, John Hinckley Jr., shot Reagan as he walked to his limousine after a speech inside the hotel.
Reagan survived, but was seriously injured by a bullet that ricocheted off the side of the presidential limousine and struck him in the body, breaking a rib and puncturing one lung.
He was rushed to George Washington University Hospital and released on April 11.
Then-White House spokesman James Brady was also injured in the same incident, as were a Secret Service agent and a Metropolitan Police officer.
Brady suffered brain damage during the attack.
Health problems resulting from the injuries accompanied him to the end and contributed to his death in 2014.
The following year, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of mental disorder, but was placed in a high-security ward at St Elizabeth's Hospital until his release in 2016.
A memorial plaque still marks the site of the shooting on the side of the hotel.
