Socialist MP Vullnet Sinaj continues to justify his vote in favor of the Territorial Reform, even though he had previously publicly opposed it. This time, the reason he gives is that a vote against would serve the Democratic Party, which, according to him, was expecting a split within the majority.
"It seemed as if the DP was waiting to create a rift within the SP, but this has not happened and will not happen. We may have different opinions within us and we address them in the parliamentary group. In the end, we vote according to the decision of the parliamentary group that deals with the vote," he said.
So, in order not to please his political opponents, Sinaj chose to support a reform that he himself had opposed, not even keeping his word about voting against it. The socialist MP even called this a universal rule, which is also applied by other European parties.
In the interview with News24, Sinaj went even further with his explanation. He stated that if he were an independent MP, he could have voted against the reform.
"If I were an independent MP in Parliament, I could have voted against that reform," he declared.
The socialist MP's explanation best summarizes the way dissent works in the Socialist Party; you can be against it, but to vote against it you have to be outside the party.
Thus, Sinaj preserved the unity of the SP, did not satisfy the opposition and voted in favor of the reform. The only thing he failed to keep was his word and the merger of the Selenica municipality where he received votes to become an MP.
