Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury sustained during the 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has announced.
The 33-year-old, who has previously confirmed he will leave the reigning English champions at the end of the season, was seen greeting the fans with applause as he came off injured in the 60th minute.
Although the club has not yet issued an official statement on his condition, Hassan has stressed that Salah will not return to the field this season.
"He has suffered a tear in his hamstring and will need about four weeks to recover," he told Reuters.
After nine successful and trophy-laden seasons, Salah's Liverpool adventure is coming to an end. His farewell is expected to be symbolic, with a message to the fans after the final challenge of the season against Brentford FC.
Liverpool still have several games to play, both home and away, including clashes with Chelsea FC, Manchester United and a trip to Aston Villa. Salah remains one of Liverpool's all-time leading scorers, with 12 goals and 9 assists in all competitions this season.
According to Hassan, the striker is expected to be ready for the 2026 World Cup, where Egypt will face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G. However, Salah aims to fully recover for the North American tournament and avoid a repeat of the injury problems of 2018, when a shoulder injury in the Champions League final affected his appearance at the World Cup in Russia.
