Just 45 days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has announced a significant increase in funding for the 48 participating national teams.
The decision comes after concerns were raised by national federations over high travel costs, logistics and the heavy tax burden in the US, with many countries risking losing money despite progress in the tournament. Under the new plans, the record $727 million prize fund will be further increased, ensuring greater benefits for all participants.
The official statement issued by the home of world football states:
"FIFA can confirm that it is in discussions with associations around the world to increase available revenue. This includes a proposed increase in financial contributions for all teams qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 2026 World Cup will be groundbreaking in terms of financial contribution to the global football community," adding that final details will be formalised after the FIFA Council meeting in Vancouver.
