US Central Command has announced that American forces have launched strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran.
"Today, at 12:00, US forces began strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran," CENTCOM said in a post on the X social network.
According to the US command, the attacks come after recent attempts by the IRGC to strike commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as members of US forces deployed in the region.
Axios also reported on the new strikes before CENTCOM's official announcement, citing US officials.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high following the escalation of the conflict and US attacks on Iran. A framework agreement was reached in June with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, but the situation remained fragile.
In July, the United States launched a two-week bombing campaign and then reimposed a naval blockade, following clashes over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM's latest announcement marks another direct military escalation between the two countries, while international attention is focused on developments in Hormuz and the risk of expanding conflict in the region.
