Renowned lawyer Saimir Vishaj has passed away at the age of 60, after several days in critical condition at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.
Vishaj was hospitalized after falling down the stairs, where he suffered serious injuries. Due to his health condition, he was intubated and was under intensive care by doctors, but despite efforts, he did not survive.
The full circumstances of the incident that caused the injuries still remain unclear.
In August 2025, Vishaj publicly revealed that he had suffered a serious illness, which had forced him to remain in a coma and intubated for a period. At that time, he had managed to recover.
Saimir Vishaj was one of the well-known names in criminal law in Albania. He had been practicing law since 1998 and had held several important positions in the representative structures of the legal profession.
From 2009 to 2021, Vishaj led the Criminal Lawyers Association of Albania, while he was also a member of the governing bodies of the National Chamber of Advocates.
He had also been a member of the Justice Reform Monitoring Commission during the years 2018–2020, as well as a lecturer at "Luarasi" University in Tirana.
