The "hardest year of my life" for Prince William: The heir to the throne of England confesses: "Life confronts us with such challenges, and how we overcome them shows who we are."
"2024 has been the most difficult year of my life." Prince William has acknowledged the hardships and burdens of the 12 months in which his wife, Catherine, and his father, Charles, were diagnosed with cancer and had to deal with the associated treatments. A year further complicated by the ongoing breakdown of relations with his brother, Harry.
The Prince of Wales invited American actor and presenter Eugene Levy to Windsor Castle for the English stop of his documentary, The Reluctant Traveler, and after a guided tour of the palace, sat down with him in a pub, where he gave a rare television interview: “Life sometimes presents us with such challenges, and how we overcome them shows who we are,” William said in a promotional clip for the program that has been released. What does he do in his free time? “Sleep,” the prince replied with humor. “With three young children, sleep is an essential ingredient.” Kate and William have three children: George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7.
Princess Kate, who has completed treatment but is still not fully recovered, also spoke about the physical and psychological toll of the disease: “You put on a brave face during therapy,” she explained in July during a visit. “Then you finish treatment and you say to yourself, okay, now I can go back to normal – but in fact this is a very, very complicated phase.” “You are no longer under the care of the medical team, but at home you can’t go back to doing everything you did before, and it’s important to have someone you can talk to, someone who can help you find your way... You have to find a new balance, a new normal and that takes time – it’s not a smooth process as you might expect.”
