
Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar lead the nominations list for this year's prestigious MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in the US.
Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande are also among the most nominated artists for the event, which will be held on September 7 at the UBS Arena in New York.
Beyoncé and Taylor Swift — who hold the record for most wins in VMAs history with 30 awards each — are nominated only in the “Artist of the Year” category this year. Neither has released an album in the past year, but both have embarked on massive international tours.
Taylor Swift holds the record for the most Moonman trophies as a solo artist, while Beyoncé's success also includes collaborations with other artists. Last year, Swift was the night's biggest winner, with seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year.
For the 2025 edition:
Lady Gaga leads with 12 nominations, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her project Mayhem.
Bruno Mars follows with 11 nominations,
Kendrick Lamar with 10,
and Sabrina Carpenter with 8, including for her hit Espresso.The song Die With A Smile, a collaboration between Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, is nominated for "Song of the Year", as well as in the categories "Best Collaboration", "Best Pop" and "Video of the Year".
This year, the ceremony will also introduce two new categories: "Best Pop Artist" and "Best Country Song."
Meanwhile, there are no announcements yet for the MTV Europe Music Awards, as it is reported that this year's edition has been suspended.
