White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt will leave her post at the end of August, US President Donald Trump announced. The departure of one of the administration's most popular figures comes less than three months before the US midterm elections, bringing a significant change to the president's communications team.
Leavitt, 28, made history when she was named press secretary, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the position. She took office in January 2025, upon Trump's return to the White House, and quickly became one of the administration's most prominent voices with the media.
According to Trump, Leavitt's decision is related to her desire to devote more time to her family and two young children. She became a mother for the second time in May and had returned to work after maternity leave.
Leavitt herself described leaving as a difficult decision, explaining that after returning to work she realized that she could not simultaneously devote the time and energy that each required to her family and the extremely intensive duties of press secretary.
However, Leavitt will not be separated from Trump. The president announced that she will continue to be one of his outside advisors and an influential voice in the Republican camp.
The name of the person who will replace him at the White House podium has not yet been announced. The change comes at a delicate political moment, as Republicans and Democrats enter a decisive phase of the battle for the November midterm elections.
