The US Secret Service has been made aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state television, which appears to contain threats against Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump.
According to CNN, hardline Iranian media outlets have repeatedly published threatening material against President Trump and his family, following the assassination of Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several of his family members at the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran in February.
Threats have previously been reported against First Lady Melania Trump, but this appears to be the first time Barron has been targeted.
"The US Secret Service is aware of the video and is investigating anything that could be perceived as a threat to the people we protect," spokesman Nate Herring told CNN.
He added that due to operational security, the Secret Service does not comment on matters related to defense intelligence information.
The video, which is about three minutes long, begins with a graphic in English that reads: "Where should we kill Barron Trump?!" The footage also shows places where the US president's son is known to spend time, including Trump Tower in New York.
At the end of the video, the narrator claims that people are "eagerly waiting to receive the $10 million reward."
The footage was broadcast over the weekend by IRIB, the Iranian state broadcaster, which is considered close to the regime's hardline circles. The head of this institution is appointed directly by Iran's supreme leader.
