Iraq has asked Iran to give special treatment to Iraqi oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, at a time when tensions in this strategic sea route have created uncertainty for trade and energy supplies.
The request was made during a meeting in Baghdad between Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed al-Halbousi. The latter stressed that Iraq is among the countries most affected by recent regional developments and demanded that the country's oil exports receive special treatment.
For his part, Qalibaf expressed Tehran's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Baghdad, especially in the economic and trade sectors.
During the visit, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament also met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, with whom he discussed regional developments and ways to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Qalibaf described Iraq as an important country in the region and said the visit aims to strengthen cooperation between countries in the region, without foreign interference. He also stressed the need for deeper and more stable relations between Iran and Iraq.
Qalibaf's visit to Baghdad comes at a tense moment in the region, as the Strait of Hormuz remains a key point for global oil transportation.
