Today, the American justice system announced the conviction of the author of the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump while he was playing on a golf course last year, before the election, in Florida.
The sentence to be served by 59-year-old Ryan Ruth, who was found guilty by the American justice system of attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump at his golf course in Florida in September 2024, two months before the US presidential election, will reportedly be announced today (February 4).
Ruth faces life imprisonment.
In September, a jury in Florida found Ryan Routh guilty of five charges, including attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate.
At the end of his federal court trial, Ryan Routh tried to kill himself with a pen. His guards intervened to stop him.
"Ruth's crimes clearly merit a life sentence: For months, he plotted to kill a prominent presidential candidate, demonstrated a willingness to kill anyone who got in his way, and has since expressed no remorse or regret toward his victims," prosecutors said, as quoted by ABC News.
According to them, the crimes for which Ruth was found guilty demonstrate detailed planning, deep premeditation, and a disregard for human life.
Ruth, who had pleaded not guilty, conducted her own defense during the trial and explained that she never intended to harm Trump or anyone else.
Ruth was arrested on September 15, 2024, by members of the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting senior political officials in the United States, who had seen him with a gun near the golf course where Donald Trump was playing.
