US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Washington has enough money to finance a war with Iran, even as the administration is preparing to request additional funds from Congress.
"We have enough money to fund this war. This is additional funding," Bessent said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press.
He emphasized that President Donald Trump has strengthened the US military both in his first term and now in his second, and wants to ensure that it is well-equipped in the future.
Bessent also ruled out raising taxes to fund the conflict. Meanwhile, the US military's request for about $200 billion in additional funding for the war is facing opposition in Congress, with Democrats and some Republicans questioning the need for the amount after last year's defense budget increase.
